Wow a new look!
It’s been long overdue as I’ve kept mentioning to myself. My hope for this year to finally get this up and running smoothly and to start showcasing my past team projects from GitHub that I worked on with members in the hackathons.
I also hope to start storing my essays and projects that I worked on in college to this website to showcase what I have done over the years.
Where’s the essays!
I made a test file with huckabees because I thought it was an interesting existentialism paper I had to write for class. Obviously, I have more to come. The only catch is that all my essays are in docx and everything that is being written here needs to be done with markdown. What is Markdown? It’s like a far better version to HTML writing and it mostly associated with the README.md that you always see on GitHub.
I’m not sure if that’s a good way to explain markdown but I hopefully can explain more in a future tutorial if I make one.
The real importance is that Docx can be converted using pandoc
which is a tool to convert Microsoft Word files to Markdown. I can then add the Markdown files to my posts folder and it instantly makes a post. Magic!
But I thought making websites, especially for blogging, without Wix, Squarespace, or Wordpress would be hard
I thought so too. It was only until I discovered static website generators which I discussed more in my about section of the website. I need to write more about it here but below in the footer should be the following “This was built with Jekyll and So Simple” You can check those there which will tell you more than I ever could.
What’s next?
I need to link my gitlab with the website here because I used to use Github but It has been so long since I used it that I had the choice between re-learning Github or trying an alternative which was Gitlab to my knowledge. In fact, this markdown post was explicitly made with Gitlab’s built in Web IDE, isn’t that neat? I have all my stuff centralized and I don’t have to remember which version was the most recent between Windows and Linux when developing this site now. Expect to see more posts following this massive push and I hope I can keep the passion rolling, I only get time windows like this every once a year. It also beats playing video games hahaha.
